‘Top Gear’-Style TV Spin-Off Part of Amazon’s Upcoming ‘007 Universe’ as MGM Deal Closes

Amazon is set to both shake and stir up things with the James Bond franchise.

Just a day after completing its $8.5 billion takeover of Hollywood studio and Bond co-owner MGM, the online retailer has unveiled plans for what it calls the “007 Universe.”

The proposals, seen by B&A, would include multiple film and TV series spin offs set in a world broadly inspired by the world originally created by Bond writer Ian Fleming.

Among the plans likely to raise eyebrows among Bond traditionalists include “Jamie Bond,” a children’s animated series set in a British boarding school, and a car review reality TV show described by one Amazon executive as “Top Gear but with more explosions.”

Following the model set by Marvel Studios with its MCU series spin-offs, Amazon is also planning to roll out numerous small-screen drama series focused on minor characters in the James Bond films. In addition to shows featuring technology department head Q and MI-6 director M, there will be series on “G”, MI-6’s head of HR, and “L”, who handles accounting.
